Participation to the XII Culiacan International Guitar Competition 2019 is open to all guitarists, regardless of age or nationality who:

• Have not won any edition of the Culiacan International Guitar Competition
• Have paid the registration fee according to the following:
  • o $50 USD until October 31st
  • o $75 USD from November 1stto January 15th
  • o $100 USD from January 16thto March 1st

First Round

Will be held March 6th and 6th 2018, at 10 a.m. in Socorro Astol Theater located in Instituto Sinaloense de Cultura (ISIC), address: Boulevard Niños Héroes (malecón) corner with Ruperto L. Paliza, in the city of Culiacán, Sinaloa, México.

Participants must be present one hour prior to the competition. Turns will be assigned by email.

Participants will play:

• Free choice program between 8 and 10 minutes long.

Semi-finalist will be announced verbally after the second day of the first round.

Semifinal round

Will be march 7th 2018, at 10 a.m. in Socorro Astol Theater, following the same participation order as the previous day. Participants must be present one hour before to be assigned a warm up space.

Semifinalist will play:

• A free choice program, different from what was played in first round, with a total playing time of 10 to 12 minutes.

Finalist will be announced verbally after de semifinal round.

Final Round

Will be march 8th 2018, at5:00 pm in Socorro Astol Theater, following the same participation order as the previous day. Participants must be present one hour before to be assigned a warming up space.

Finalist will play:

Any one Study from Heitor Villa-lobo´s Twelve Studies plus a free choice program. Total playing time must be 17 to 20 minutes, including the Villa-lobo´s Study. Music from previous rounds cannot be repeated.

Winners will be announced verbally after de final round and must be present for the Winners Ceremony following the concert.

The competition

• There will be a one minute tolerance in performances (in less or more)
• Participants must state name and pieces to be played for the jury.
• Participants will have one minute to choose a chair and to tune the guitar.
• All pieces must be played from memory.
• Should the jury find it appropriate, any participant could be stopped during his/her performance.
• Should the jury find the absence of sufficient quality, any prize could be declared “not awarded”.
• In the case of a tied prize, the amount of the prize will be split.
• The jury will determine the number of semifinalists and finalists.
• Jury´s decisions are final.

Additional information

• All rounds will be public and could be recorded and broadcasted in any media, without it causing retribution of any kind to participants.
• Participation implies the contestant understands the rules and agrees to them.
• All participants will receive a diploma
• All participants could request to one or more members of the jury an observation on strengths and weaknesses.
• Winners must personally claim the prize and adhere to taxes laws.

The Jury

The Jury of XII International Guitar Competition Culiacan 2019 will be formed by at least three professional musicians of whom at least two will be international.

Prizes

Since its first edition, H. Ayuntamiento de Culiacán sponsors the prizes for the competition, which are:

First place:

• USD $ 4,000.00 (MXN $72,431.00 Mexican pesos, which are equivalent to $4000.00 USD at the day of the publication of this rules).
• Paid concert (MXN$10,000.00) with Sinaloa de las Artes Orchestraduring festival 2020
• CD Recording with Latin Grammy Winner Label AdLib MusicMX.

Second place:

• USD $ 1,500.00 (MXN $27,162.00 Mexican pesos, which are equivalent to $1500.00 USD at the day of the publication of this rules).

Third place:

• USD $ 500.00 (MXN $9,054.00 Mexican pesos, which are equivalent to $500.00 USD at the day of the publication of this rules).
