FOCUS OF SWAMI CHIDANANDA’S DHARMA TALKS:
Session 1: Origins of Yoga
Within the Yogic tradition, there are many teachings, practices, and teachers that speak about the way to the highest truth. For those new to these ancient teachings, it can feel a bit overwhelming when hearing about the various practices and rituals.
In the first session, we break down the essence of the Yogic teachings, how they originated, what are the core principles, and how to view the tradition in a more holistic way, which can help us gain a higher understanding of our life purpose.
The groundwork will be set for further insights into how we can strive to understand our Higher Self. We will begin by defining in detail, the qualities and attributes of Brahman (Supreme Consciousness), Atma (Soul), and Prakriti (Material Nature). We will also cover the underlying factors that cause the separation between Brahman and the Atma, leading us to be in ignorance of our True Self.
Session 2: Karma & Dharma
Many of us misunderstand karma and how it impacts our lives. We view karma in simple terms such as ‘good’ or ‘bad’ karma, but in reality the philosophy behind karma is very complex. Karma not only affects how we view the world currently, but also the types of experiences we will have in the future. Karma is classified into three categories, and each of these categories are responsible for all of the various life situations we find ourselves in. By understanding the law of Karma we can better deal with the ups and downs that life inevitably brings.
Session 3: Krishna, Arjuna, and the Meaning of “Duty” in the Bhagavad Gita
The majority of people in this world are confused about their duty and purpose in life. In the same way, the great warrior Arjuna, in the Bhagavad Gita, is confused about how to do his duty properly. In this space of confusion, Arjuna turns to help from Krishna, who represents our higher Self.
The Bhagavad Gita is not just something which happened 5000 years ago on the battlefield, it is a representation of life. Arjuna is each one of us who are in ignorance of our true Self, Krishna represents the Divine Consciousness that is trying to help us remember who we are, and the battlefield represents life, where we work through our limitations and negativity so we can realize once again our True Self.
Session 4: Three Main Paths of Yoga
In the fourth session, we will explore the various paths of yoga taught in the Bhagavad Gita and Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras and how they can be applied in our own lives.
Both scriptures describe three primary paths of yoga, each of which is designed to help individuals attain self-realization and liberation from the material world. These paths include Karma Yoga (selfless action), Bhakti Yoga (devotion), Jnana Yoga (knowledge). We will delve deeply into the teachings of each of these paths and explore how they can be applied in our daily lives.

WHAT IS KUNDALINI YOGA?
Known for its transformative benefits, the practice of Kundalini Yoga builds physical strength and stamina and enhances cognitive function, emotional fitness, and spiritual connection.
Kundalini Yoga offers a holistic technology that can be used by people of any belief and from all walks of life. Unlike renunciate yoga traditions, Kundalini Yoga provides a path for householders: people with families, social roles, and worldly concerns.
In Kundalini Yoga the focus is on mantra, movement and the transformation of energy in your nervous and glandular systems. We practice kriyas – specific sequences of yoga postures, breath techniques, and meditations – to produce specific results. Every kriya stimulates the mental, physical, and spiritual health of the being. There is a clarity that arises that combines perception, thought, and intuition.
WHAT IS OM CHANTING?
OM Chanting is a group practice that uses the transformational power of om to activate the self-healing potential of participants.
OM Chanting also brings people together in service of others. Like a prayer, the positive vibrations of om can be offered to support those in need.
OM Chanting generates a vibrational frequency that releases negativity, transforms it and showers participants with positive energy.
The vibrational waves created by the OM Chanting practise spreads out in a 2-kilometre radius, creating a harmonious, peaceful environment and a unity between humans and nature. The om continues to resonate in participants’ bodies after the circle, allowing them to share the good vibrations wherever they go.
