Extraction Fashion: unequal exchange and degrowth explored
Overview
What does it take to produce the clothes consumed in the EU and UK?
Extraction Fashion, a new report by War on Want and Research & Degrowth International (R&DI), reveals new data on the land, water, minerals, fossil fuels and human labour that is taken from countries across the world for fashion. This is driving climate and ecological breakdown and undermining poorer countries’ development.
Alongside this, R&DI’s policy brief Clothing the Planet Within Limits proposes a ‘degrowth’ approach to fashion through policies that will radically reduce material and energy consumption, while challenging the culture of constant novelty, overconsumption and fast fashion.
This event will present new data, findings and outline policy pathways for a just transition away from a fashion industry that damages our planet, towards one that centre the needs of people and our planet.
nb: the event will be held on Zoom with a livestream on Youtube at @ResearchDegrowth
Audience questions will be collected via Mentimeter in order to allow all participants to contribute !
