About this event

What's the biggest myth around motivation?

As you may have seen in many organisations people still believe to some great extent that people are motivated by receiving some kind of money or reward for having done their job. Since this may arguably still work in some environments, adaptive complex systems such as most organisations will face quite a few challenges with this approach.

Just to name a few:

  • Difficult to adapt to changing internal/external needs
  • On many occasions, there are competing goals in an organisation
  • The goal and the reward are not meeting the actual need

Join us for a thought-provoking debate that aims to brainstorm some possible changes and solutions around Rewards & Goals. We'll discuss how you may want to decouple rewards from goals, avoid making goals targets and talk about the pressing issue that rewards promote individualistic and competitive behaviour.

This works against the collaboration that is required in a team-based adaptive organization. We need to structure our reward systems around collaboration and team goals and not individualistic goals

Keen to hear what organisations do out there to tackle the issue? Then join us!
