Event description
This winter school will teach the competencies required to better align research and innovation with wider societal needs and values

About this Event

What is the winter school about?

The GoNano project explores the problems that can arise when research and innovation (R&I) is carried out unilaterally; and aims to show how including both societal and professional stakeholders in the R&I process can help resolve these problems, or even avoid them altogether.

Winter school participants will be introduced to the key concepts and definitions of Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) and co-creation, and how they can add value to R&I activities. Co-creation methodologies are widely applicable to technology transfer, policy and innovation processes across science, engineering and technology. This course will deliver a series of instructional and interactive teaching modules, exploring nanotechnology applications in the important areas of health, energy and food.

Teaching modules will address: Introduction to RRI and co-creation; Co-creation workshops; Interpreting results and observations from workshops and surveys; How to engage with citizens; How to engage with stakeholders; Communicating science effectively; Communicating risks effectively.

Who is it for?

Postgraduate students and early career researchers who are carrying out research within physical and social sciences, and are interested in learning more about how to apply their skills and knowledge at the interface between science and society.
