IE Talks in Warsaw: Geopolitics in the Digital Age
Agenda
19:00-19:30 Welcome word about IE University by Mariam Katsanashvili, Senior Manager for Central and Eastern Europe
19:30-21:00 Masterclass by Milo Jones on Geopolitics in the Digital Age
21:00-22:00 Networking Session Even before Russia's brutal invasion of Ukraine in February, 2022 it was clear that the world was likely entering a period of extended disorder. Indeed, arguably recent events (COVID; War in the Middle East; rising populism in democracies) are only the tip of the (digital) iceberg towards which contemporary governments, societies, and culture are headed. Political change – or at least unprecedented pressure - is in the air, almost everywhere. In this talk we will look at why this is happening. We'll explore how digital technology has become what philosophers call a "formal cause", i.e. something that does not merely have effects, but that is actually structuring and shaping political and social choices. We’ll also try and glimpse what the digital future holds, and discuss what businesses and business professionals might do about it. Professor BiographyDr MILO JONES has been teaching at IE Business School since 2009. He also a Visiting Research Fellow at the Changing Character of War Centre, Pembroke College, Oxford and a Senior Adviser for Geopolitics and Technology at Arcano Partners in Madrid and a German hedge fund. In 2013, Stanford University Press published his book Constructing Cassandra: Reframing Intelligence Failure at the CIA, 1947-2001, which is based on Milo’s 2009 PhD dissertation. In the past, Milo worked as a Senior Manager for Accenture in London and as a stockbroker at Morgan Stanley Dean Witter in New York. He also served as an officer in the US Marine Corps and is a graduate from the US Army’s Airborne School. He is a member of the International Institute for Strategic Studies, and the Association of Former Intelligence Officers. A native of Manhattan, Milo now lives in Poland, France and America.
