We are delighted to invite you to the EUmies Awards Talks featuring Kate Orff, founder of SCAPE, a practice dedicated to reimagining landscape architecture in response to the challenges of climate change.
Recipient of the Thomas Jefferson Foundation Medal in Architecture 2024, Orff will present her work on November 24 at the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion in Barcelona. This event follows presentations by Gustav Düsing, co-winner of the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture / Mies van der Rohe Awards 2024 (EUmies Awards), at the University of Virginia School of Architecture, and Andrew Freear of Rural Studio at the Barcelona Pavilion. Together, these talks mark the beginning of a new collaboration between the EUmies Awards, organized by the Fundació Mies van der Rohe with the support of Creative Europe (European Commission), and the Thomas Jefferson Foundation Medal in Architecture from the University of Virginia.
This partnership seeks to foster a transatlantic dialogue that strengthens global recognition of architecture’s role in addressing social and environmental challenges. This year’s collaboration will take place within the Barcelona International Landscape Biennial, where Kate Orff will also serve as a juror for the XIII Barba International Landscape Prize. Notably, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe—the first recipient of the Thomas Jefferson Medal in Architecture in 1966—embodies the shared values that unite this collaboration. His legacy continues to bridge American and European architectural innovation, celebrating excellence in design and forward-thinking practice.
