Personal Health Record symposium
Friday, 29 November 2013 from 09:00 to 17:00 (CET)
Today’s advanced connected mobile devices have put vast computing powers and access to a wealth of information at the fingertips of individuals. To put this new resource in service of personal health, it has to serve as the hub and centre of a connected chain of devices: (1) on one hand personal health sensors that measure physiological and health data and transmit it to the device, and (2) on the other hand an online personal health record where data can be securely and privately uploaded and stored.
This symposium will address the second connection: the electronic personal health record (PHR). Ideally, the PHR is an interactive data repository (with privacy and security safeguards) that the patient can access and edit from their mobile phone; that can be accessed and reviewed by clinicians and carers (with the appropriate authorisation); that serves educational and diagnostic functions, and that allows data to be used (in aggregated, anonymised form) for the larger purposes of public health and research.
Today, Europe has a number of regions that offer their citizens and patients online PHRs with some or all of these functionalities, while others are keen to learn. The aim of the symposium is to share experiences and create networks among the drivers of the most advanced personal health record (PHR) systems in Europe, with the objective to:
- Sketch the potential benefits of personal connected health
- Map the current situation of personal health records implementation in Europe;
- Learn about the evolution perspectives and visions in the medium and long term;
- Identify the main barriers for the adoption and extension of good practices;
- Sketch the elements of a common vision for PHRs; and
- Define the role of mobile technologies and their link with the PHR.
