How do we cultivate a resilient and responsive distributed design community?
From August 23rd to October 17th Fab Lab Barcelona is hosting a weekly online chat series, where guests share their personal experiences of responding to moments of crisis. The aim is to collaboratively work on a shared vision, align values, and develop best practices.
Enrico Bassi will join us on September 20th from 16:00 - 17:00. Enrico who graduated in “Design & Engineering” and “Product Design” at the Polytechnic University of Milan, coordinated the first Italian Fab Lab (digital manufacturing laboratory) in 2011: Fab Lab Italia. Subsequently, he was president and coordinator of FabLab Torino, the public lab of Officine Arduino. In 2015, he completed FabAcademy. In 2016, he became an Instructor and Global Reviewer for the new edition of the Fab Academy, held at the Opendot Fab Lab, which he has coordinated since 2014 (www.opendotlab.it). For Opendot, he also supervises European and international projects on the topic of open-source health solutions (www.careables.org) and the circular economy (https://reflowproject.eu/). He has taught and continues to teach Digital Manufacturing and Design Engineering at various universities and academies, including LABA (Free Academy of Fine Arts, Brescia), NABA (New Academy of Fine Arts, Milan), Domus Academy (Milan), and the Master of Advanced Studies in Interaction Design at SUPSI (Lugano).
The Resilient Makers Stories will be facilitated by Jean Luc Pierite, as part of the MDEF Residency Program. They are part of the European project Reservist that aims to establish a network of ‘reservist cells’, resilient networks that can be activated within 48hrs to switch to manufacturing medical products and services that are spiking in demand. Reservist has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program under grant agreement No. 101016041.

Fab Lab BarcelonaEl Fab Lab Bcn es un centro de investigación y producción, que utiliza maquinas de fabricación digital de última generación destinadas a la creación de objetos a partir de las tecnologías digitales.
Localizado en el Institut d´arquitectura avançada de Catalunya (IaaC), el Fab Lab Bcn ofrece programas educativos y profesionales relacionados con la fabricación digital. Bajo la idea de: “desde el personal computer (PC) al personal fabrication (PF)” el Fab Lab Bcn impulsa conjuntamente con el Centro de Bits y Atomos del Instituto de Technología de Massachusetts (MIT) una red mundial de laboratorios en los cuáles se podría hacer “casi” todo, usando equipamiento y tecnologías compartidas.
Estas tecnologías también permiten introducir en la producción material el diseño paramétrico y la fabricación de elementos diferentes sin coste añadido. Se inicia así la popularización de una nueva manera de producción que afectara a todos los niveles de la vida: desde el ámbito profesional den el mundo del diseño, la arquitectura o la producción industrial, hasta el ámbito doméstico, con la introducción de la fabricación personal. En los Fab Labs, no sólo los objetos se producen a partir de procesos digitales sino que los propios objetos son capaces de incorporarse a la redes de Internet a partir al incorporación de microservidores de protocolo Internet Zero, sensores y otros elementos electrónicos.
El Fab Lab Pro es un servicio ofrecido por el Fab Lab Bcn y el IaaC, el cual abre las posibilidades de las tecnologías digitales de la fabricación a profesionales de diferentes campos en Catalunya y España.
