On the 30st of November, the STARS4ALL community will hold the 1st Light Pollution Initiative (LPI) workshop in the Acquario Civico in Milan, Italy. The workshop targets the growing community of professional and amateur scientists concerned about light pollution in Europe. It will host TED-style open talk sessions, discussions and round tables to meet and exchange knowledge between several prominent initiatives on the subject and increasing the impact of citizen science at European level on the issue of light pollution.

Light pollution is about the excessive, misdirected, or obtrusive artificial light that accumulates into skyglow and illuminates enlightens large areas that extend far beyond the boundaries of human agglomerations. The excessive illumination of the nightscape increases worldwide by approximately 3-6% annually, changing the view ofn the nightscape, disrupting ecosystems and affecting well-being.

STARS4ALL is a Collective Awareness Platform for Social and Sustainable Innovation (CAPS) funded by Horizon 2020)., It fosters dialogue and collaboration to find global solutions for the ever increasing problem of light pollution. The platform supports networks of people, ideas and sensors and facilitates communication between stakeholders in providing digital social innovation.

Everybody is invited to meet with citizen scientists, amateur and professional experts from light pollution associated topics, such as astrophysics and physics, chronobiology, ecology, light design and architecture. The workshop will provide presentations of current and ongoing LPIs, discussions, round tables and the presentation of the current set of STARS4ALL tools, like the TESS-Photometer-network, games, data sharing and mapping, community support, crowdfunding and the STARS4All marketplace.

You will have the chance to meet the STARS4ALL team, which brings together expertise from eight organisations in Spain, Germany, France, Italy and the United Kingdom: Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM), Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM), Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC), University of Southampton, Leibniz Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries (IGB), CEFRIEL Italy, ESCP Europe and the European Crowdfunding Network (ECN).
