GUEST SPEAKERS:

Talk 1

Derk-Jan de Grood -Thoughtleader, Test Manager & Agile coach

  • Talk tittle: The art of Excellence, Adding value as an IT professional
  • Abstract: In order to distinguish themselves and meet customer expectations organizations need to embrace change. In his keynote Derk-Jan de Grood will explain how disruptive trends require a flexible organization that balances between planning ahead from a vision and responding to change. The transition to agile, the adoption of Continues Delivery, DevOps and Scaling Agile aim to effectively react to disruptive innovations. But, they introduce new challenges. Many organizations struggle with their Scrum and fail to embed their development into the organization. Think e.g. about Dealing with suppliers that are non-agile, translating business goals into workable backlog items, legacy and manual processes, governance and quality thinking. IT professionals see their roles shifting rapidly and need to develop themselves and their team in order to keep adding value, to embrace the new opportunities that arise. This introduces uncertainties on what is expected from the agile developer and tester, but it introduces new opportunities as well. Derk-Jan will explain why organizations have a need for Visionary’s, Explorers and Experts. Every professional can be either one of them in their own specialism and contribute to innovation and increasing effectiveness. With these roles as a starting point we’ll explore what it takes to be an excellent and wanted professional that adds value and enjoys his/her work.

Talk 2

Daniel Garnier-Moiroux - Software engineer at Pivotal Labs / Linkedin Profile

Luis Herrera - Pivot, Docker captain and official trainer, ex-AWS Ambassador and trainer, Xoggler, Ex-Vmware

  • Talk title: Cloud-Native applications made easy, with Spring, Kotlin and PCF
  • Abstract: Software is eating the world, and is an undeniable competitive advantage for many companies, on widly different markets. To stay ahead, they strive to establish a two-way conversation with their users, sensing their needs and rapidly responding. To deal with ever-changing contexts, software teams invest in tools that help them go fast - forever. Spring Boot combines the depth, reliability and flexibility of the Spring framework with great defaults that get you off the ground in seconds. Compatibility with Kotlin, the productivity-oriented JVM language, makes for an even faster and more fun development experience. Combined with a powerful cloud-native platform such as Pivotal Cloud Foundry, you can deploy an app in minutes - and painlessly evolve it to a fully-fledge Cloud ecosystem of apps. In this talk, we will build a Boot app from the ground up, deploy it and use Spring Cloud to unleash the power of microservices. Come have cloud-native fun!
