Fab Lab Barcelonaes un laboratorio de fabricación digital líder en de la red mundial de talleres de innovación (Fab Labs). Fundado en 2007 por el Instituto de Arquitectura Avanzada de Cataluña (IAAC), Fab Lab Barcelona es un espacio que ofrece acceso a una gran variedad de herramientas de fabricación digital, como impresoras 3D, cortadoras láser, fresadoras CNC, entre otros equipos de alta tecnología.El objetivo principal del Fab Lab Barcelona es promover la innovación, la creatividad y la colaboración en el ámbito de la fabricación digital y la tecnología, así como fomentar la participación ciudadana en el proceso de creación y producción de objetos y productos. Además, ofreceMásters, Posgrados y cursos de formación en diseño y fabricación digital, una plataforma académica distribuida de educación, y colaboraciones diversas con diferentes proyectos de investigación y desarrollo tecnológico.En la actualidad, Fab Lab Barcelona desarrolla proyectos de investigación a diferentes escalas, desde dispositivos inteligentes para la recolección de datos por los individuos (Ciudadano inteligente) a los nuevos modelos productivos para las ciudades (FabCity). Los Fab Labs exploran la relación entre el mundo digital y físico, comenzó como un proyecto de extensión delCentro de Bits y Átomos del MITy se ha convertido en una red mundial de personas que trabajan en la popularización de un nuevo modo de producción que afectará a todos los niveles de nuestra vida: desde el mundo profesional de la producción de diseño, arquitectura o industrial, a la esfera doméstica, con la introducción de la fabricación personal en nuestra vida cotidiana.

This September, the Distributed Design Platform and its members will host a conference-themed Open Design at the Vienna Design Week. Join us by signing up for the main event and don't miss out on registering for the special workshops!

Join ethical fashion designer and crafter Darja for a hands-on workshop to create corn husk woven rug. Participants will learn to make <a href="https://www.darjamalesic.net/rug.html" title="https://www.darjamalesic.net/rug.html" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Pra Preproga rug</a>, blending traditional wicker craft with circular design principles.The corn husk rug is a simple example of a circular economy, where waste (corn husk) is the basic raw material for a product and it can be composted when the life cycle of the product is completed. The material used is 100% natural, and in the case of corn leaves, a by-product of a cash crop.The best thing is to find a local farmer with a cornfield, who might be keen on sharing some with you. Since corn is growing on almost all the continents, and its world production is around 1.1 million tons, hopefully, this shouldn’t be too difficult.Making a rug with video instructions is easy. We begin by weaving a braid, which we later sew together into a circular or oval shape. You can experiment with the shape and the color to create a unique design. Natural dying recipes will be shared for varied colourful creations and it is open for further customisation.The aim is to transfer knowledge and preserve traditional craft techniques and at the same time offer sustainable product.No previous knowledge is required, anyone can join.
