Datathon - The future of the Internet

EU Engineroomis a European project that focuses on identifying and evaluating the key enabling technologies and topics that will underpin the Next Generation Internet.Engineroom brings together a consortium of three partners:Nesta(London, United Kingdom),Eurecat(Barcelona, Spain) andDELab at the University of Warsaw(Warsaw, Poland).

How does it work? Participants will form small groups. Each group will choose a challenge and will be able to use one or more of the datasets made available by the Engineroom project, including data from Reddit, Wikipedia and online news. Starting from some question according to its interests, each group will apply the methods of data analysis and visualization it finds more convenient to extract knowledge from the datasets provided or any other available data source. A team of mentors will provide supervision. At the end of the datathon each group will present its results in visual form and the best project will be awarded. Snacks and lunch will accompany the event.  
Who can participate? Anybody with basic programming skills can participate; expertise in data science or data visualization is a plus. We highly appreciate the presence of participants with social science or economics background, also with no programming skills, to create interdisciplinary work groups. Participation is open to individuals, as well as to already defined groups of 2 to 4 people. 
Which are the prizes? There will be prizes for all the participants, including a Raspberry pi for each person. Each member of the awarded group will receive as special prize a <A HREF="https://www.seeedstudio.com/smartcitizen" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Smart Citizen Starter Kit</A>, a toolkit of environmental sensors that measure weather conditions, noise, light and air quality. 
Who organizes it? The event is organized by <A HREF="https://eurecat.org/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Eurecat</A>, Centre tecnològic de Catalunya, together with international partners <A HREF="https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwiz_oOdyLvgAhXIxIUKHWjXDfYQFjAAegQIABAC&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.nesta.org.uk%2F&usg=AOvVaw0tg_ZID3jF6jVxReedvqBG" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Nesta</A> (UK) and <A HREF="http://www.delab.uw.edu.pl/en/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">DeLab</A> (Poland), and supported by the <A HREF="https://www.ngi.eu/about/engineroom/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Engineroom project</A>. The Engineroom project is part of the Next Generation Internet initiative, the European Commission’s ambitious new flagship programme which aims to build a more democratic, inclusive and resilient internet by 2025. As part of this work, the project is developing a methodology based on cutting-edge data science methods, which help us identify the latest trends and emerging technologies in the internet space, as well as analyse the most pressing social issues the net faces today. Com funciona? Els participants formaran petits grups. Cada grup escollirà un repte i podrà fer servir un o més dels datasets posats a disposició pel projecte Engineroom, incloent-hi dades de Reddit, Wikipedia i notícies on-line. A partir d’alguna pregunta del seu interès, cada grup farà servir els mètodes d’anàlisi i visualització de dades que trobi convenients per a extreure coneixements dels datasets proveïts o d’altres dades als que pugui accedir. Un equip de mentors proporcionarà supervisió. L'esdeveniment serà acompanyat per pica pica i càtering. Al final del datathon cada grup presentarà els seus resultats de forma visual i el millor projecte serà premiat. Qui hi pot participar? Qualsevol persona amb coneixements de programació bàsics por participar. Coneixements de Data Science o Visualització de les dades és un plus. Apreciem molt gratament la presència de participants amb estudis de ciències socials o economia, tot i que no tinguin coneixements de programació, per a crear grups interdisciplinaris. La participació és oberta a participants individuals, i també a grups ja formats de 2 a 4 persones. Quins son els premis? Hi haurà premis per a tots els participants, incloent-hi un Raspberry pi. Cada membre del grup guanyador rebrà com a premi especial un Smart Citizen Starter Kit, sensors ambientals que mesuren les condicions meteorològiques, el soroll, la llum ambiental i la qualitat de l'aire. El datathon és organitzat per Eurecat, Centre tecnològic de Catalunya, juntament amb els partners internacionals Nesta (UK) i DeLab (Polònia), amb el suport del projecte Europeu Engineroom. Cómo funciona? Los participantes formarán pequeños grupos. Cada grupo escogerá un reto y podrá utilizar uno o más de los datasets puestos a disposición por el proyecto Engineroom, que incluyen datos de varias fuentes como Reddit, Wikipedia o noticias online. A partir de alguna pregunta de su interés, cada grupo utilizará los métodos de análisis y visualización de datos que encuentre convenientes para extraer conocimientos de los datasets provistos u otros datos a los que pueda acceder. Un equipo de mentores proporcionará supervisión. Al final del datathon cada grupo presentará sus resultados de forma visual. El evento será acompañado por pica pica y catering. Quién puede participar? Cualquier persona con conocimientos de programación básicos miedo participar. Conocimientos de Data Science o Visualización de los datos es un plus. Apreciamos muy gratamente la presencia de participantes con estudios de ciencias sociales o economía, aunque no tengan conocimientos de programación, para crear grupos interdisciplinarios. La participación está abierta tanto a participantes individuales así como a grupos ya formados de 2 a 4 personas. Cuáles son los premios?
