Langho - Dean Clough Reservoir - Whalley Nab - Whalley

Grade: Moderate

Distance: 8km

Max elevation: 205m

Total ascent: 204m

This picturesque railway walk starts at the whistlestop station of Langho, on the Ribble Valley line and climbs up onto the ridge of Whalley Nab, for stunning views over the valley, then follows the ridge for a couple of miles before descending steeply through the wooded slopes into the historic riverside town of Whalley, where there’s a huge choice of boutique cafes and bars for a bit of after-walk indulgence.

This was a regular haunt of a youthful Alfred Wainwright before he ventured further afield for his walks – and the great AW thought the views of Pendle reflected in the clear waters of Dean Clough reservoir offered a glimpse of the Lake District in Lancashire.

Ideally located for quick access from Preston, Blackburn and Clitheroe with direct trains from Manchester, Freshwalkers can enjoy a bracing walk followed by relaxed conversations over food and drink before jumping on the train back home.

Public Transport

10:22 train from Clitheroe arrives in Langho at 10:32. (If driving, please consider parking in Whalley and joining this train at 10:28. Parking in Whalley is limited but onstreet available on The Sidings business park next to the station.)

09:43 train from Manchester Victoria arrives in Langho at 10:47.

The walk will start at 10:50 and we expect to arrive in Whalley sometime between 13:00 and 13:30. We'll head to a local village pub for some optional lunch and refreshments.

This walk will be led by Mark Sutcliffe, Editorial Director, Salar Media

More information will be sent out in the week before the walk. Hope you can join us.

How can I contact the organiser with any questions?

An event pack will be sent out at least 72 hours before the walk. This should answer most things but feel free to email michael@freshwalks.co.uk with any questions you may have. If you've not received the pack by this time, check your email junk or spam and then contact us. Receiving this pack is essential as it includes important disclaimers and health and safety information.

What's the refund policy?

You can self-manage a refund (minus platform fees) with 7 days notice via the Eventbrite app. We'll transfer your place to a similar future event given 24 hours notice.
