Four online workshops of Alternative Photography processes by The Real Photography Company

SPEX presents four one-month online workshops by The Real Photography Company, based in Bristol UK, who are expert teachers in black and white photography and alternative darkroom processes. During the pandemic, with their Darkrooms closed, they developed accessible photographic techniques and processes enabling people in lockdown to make images based on the principles of photography, but without the usual camera equipment, darkroom facilities or chemistry. In this series of workshops, we invite you to participate in a creative exploration of the world around you, to make images from plants, everyday kitchen ingredients, the action of the sun on light sensitive materials, the passage of time and the turning of the Earth in space.The four one-month workshops (all independent workshops):April: Pinhole Photography, Solargraphy and Room Obscura ProjectionsMay: Anthotypes and Chlorophyll PrintingJune: Lumens and Cyanotype PrintingJuly: Kitchen ChemigramsReal Photography Company Tutors: Justin Quinnell, Ruth Jacobs, Wendy Leocque, Sophie Sherwood.Dates: April to July 2021 inclusiveEach separate workshop starts on the first Sunday of the month and lasts 4 weeks, with a mix of Zoom presentations, demonstrations and discussions involving the whole group, plus small group tutorials, interacting via the SPEX platform, and WhatsApp group.You will be able to share your images and discuss project work as it evolves with the workshop tutor and other participants, obtain feedback, advice and guidance, and develop your ideas and skills in order to create an exciting portfolio of images you can present to the group at the end of the workshop. We will also publish new online galleries to exhibit participants’ photographic art works.Participants can choose which workshop(s) to attend, or book for all four, in which case a discount applies.All Alternative Photography Workshops are suitable for beginners and more experienced photographers alike, you don’t need any previous experience, or access to specialised equipment or cameras.
