About this event

  • 1 hour 30 minutes

Barcelona’s Superilles/Superblocks have been purposefully designed to transform urban space and mobility. They are synonymous with sustainable urban mobility, social cohesion, and internationally recognised for design that: a) prioritises people over cars; and b) deepens community participation, engagement and cohesion.

Superilles are an approach pioneered in Barcelona to making urban areas more liveable, people friendly and green which promotes urban biodiversity. As an urban design concept, the Superilles are envisaged as green, public spaces that can advance regenerative futures through the quality and quantity of human-nature relationships.

As part of Barcelona's Architecture Weeks, this event explores the role of architecture and design in a climate and drought emergency, and how we can help reimagine cities for regenerative futures.

The event includes a keynote by Salvador Rueda – Co-Director Maestría Online en Ciudades at the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC) and former Director of the Urban Ecology Agency of Barcelona – followed by a panel discussion with academics from RMIT University and RMIT Architecture, as well as Barcelona-based architects working with the Superilles.
