Discovering Montserrat: Sunset Hike & Photography

What is Montserrat?

Montserrat Mountain is a very special place. It has been my place to disconnect from the external world and connect with the internal, which often gets forgotten. Thanks to its uniqueness, it's where I've been able to practice nature photography the most: magical sunsets, goat fights, climbers challenging the most vertical walls, rocks with an incredible geology, mystical fog enveloping the peaks, and the full moon rising among the needles are some of the elements I've captured the most in recent years.

Located about 50 km from Barcelona and about 20 km from Manresa, setting foot in Montserrat is synonymous with immediately transporting oneself to another world, away from the noise of everyday life.

For me, Montserrat is not just a mountain; it's a place of inspiration, peace, and connexion. It's a privilege to share this unique experience with other nature and photography lovers.

Based on my experience, the most enjoyable moments in Montserrat have been in the afternoon, when the sun begins to go down a little, it is not so warm and the colors of the sunset begin to become interesting. It's also when we will have the opportunity to enjoy the tranquility of the mountain with fewer people and a greater chance of spotting wild goats.

There's a wide variety of routes, and multiple ways to reach the same destination. While hiking expertise isn't necessary, a willingness to enjoy the journey, put effort into it and being in a minimum of adequate physical condition is important.

This is a circular itinerary, with the possibility of adjusting the level of the route depending on the physical conditions of the group.

We'll venture into the most beautiful trails of the area, passing through various key points, including the iconic "roca foradada", where we can pause to admire the views and capture photographs of the landscape and the elements encountered along the way.

We'll enjoy different vantage points to witness the sunset, adjusting our stop according to available time and group needs, but flexibility is key. Every location has its charm, and we can take a break to enjoy food and drink while experiencing the golden hour and waiting to capture the magic of the sunset.

You don't need to be a photography expert or have the best camera on the market. All photos taken during the excursion, both of the landscape and the participants, will be shared with the group afterward. However, if you're passionate about photography and have your own equipment, I encourage you to bring it along and practice as much as I do!

Keep in mind:

Mother Nature is unpredictable, and this is something we must always bear in mind. It wouldn't be the first time I've gone for a sunset and found an enigmatic fog instead. This is precisely what makes this place so special and captivating, every day is a surprise and you have to adapt to the circumstances.

Therefore, as we embark on this excursion, it's important to keep an open mind and be prepared to adapt to any changes that Mother Nature may throw our way.

You can come with your car or by public transport to the Martorell train station (Martorell central), where I will come to pick you up by car and drop you off at the end of the event:
