The Dominica UK Association (DUKA)
The Dominica UK Association (DUKA) was established in 1976 following a merger of two small Dominican voluntary groups operating in East London. In 1978 DUKA gained full Charitable status from the Charity Commissioners for England and Wales. DUKA's first major project was the Hurricane David Relief Effort in 1979 involving the collection of clothing and foodstuffs from all over the UK for shipping to the "Nature Island". DUKA also secured Company Limited by Guarantee legal status in 2016. DUKA continue to aim to address the needs of our communities both in the UK and Dominica, and even more visibly in the future.
DUKA has rushed its Objects in the core areas of Education & Training, Intergenerational Projects (Youth, Elderly), Recreation, Business Liaison for Community Support, and Culture and Recreation. DUKA’s Mas Domnik UK Carnival Band is one of the differentiated (Kreyol) parading and successful Bands at Notting Hill Carnival. It’s achievements include : 4th in 2009, 2010, 2011, 3rd in 2012, 2nd in 2013, 2016 ,2017, 2024; 1st in 2019.
