Melodica Music Therapy Director Sarah Dunston is a Brisbane (Australia) based Registered Music Therapist specialising in community work. Sarah is also a Registered Teacher who is on a mission to empower and upskill early childhood educators to develop foundational music facilitation skills to support key areas of children's learning and development.In her extensive and varied 12+ years as a Registered Music Therapist and Teacher, she has gained a unique skillset as an experienced ECT Trainer, Workshop Facilitator, Researcher and Trauma Informed Music Therapy Clinician. Her programs and workshops have been created as a result of her current studies through the Creative Arts Research Institute at Griffith University investigating how Talking Circles and other Indigenious frameworks and processes can be used in early childhood trauma informed professional learning as a tool for connection ,reflection and cultural safety. This has been process of profound expansion for Sarah, on both a professional and personal level and her passion, openness and endless curiosity about what it means to create safety and healing through music and connection is a driving force in all her work. As well as this, her experience running a music therapy program for eight years in a Specialist Preschool for children impacted by abuse and neglect -continues to impact her work, process and purpose (always). Sarah would like to acknowledge the traditional owners of the land in which she works, studies and teaches. Sovereignty was never ceded. Always was, always will be -Aboriginal Land.
