Science in the City Malta
Science in the City (SitC), Malta’s national science and arts festival, was launched in 2012.
This EFFE awarded event has been growing in scale and vision for twelve years with the number of attendees more than doubling, from 12,000 in 2012 to 30,000 in 2023 — reaching over 6% of the total population of the Maltese Islands. The number of activities has more than tripled as has the number of partners, researchers and volunteers, with over 500 students and 100 researchers involved. This festival is part of the European Researchers’ Night which takes place on the same night in over 400 cities across Europe and aims to promote European research and nurture international collaboration.
Science in the City Post Festival events will take place on 14th and 24th March 2026!
On 14th March from 12 PM to 1 PM join the digital escape room "minAI game Jam" to explore your creativity. Once you escape, the space transforms into a game studio! In small teams, you'll design your own game inspired by the cultures you explored—creating characters, stories, settings, and deciding the role AI plays in your world. The session ends with short team presentations
On 24th March from 6 PM to 7:30 PM join the event "The power of play" an experimental videogame that turns this philosophical idea into playable form. Through hands-on interaction, the game explores how tools — whether a hammer, a smartphone, or a plasma gun in a shooter — actively guide perception, expectation, and agency. The project also showcases creative uses of procedural content generation in game design.
